Who We Are

Berean Missionary Church to affirms the historic Christian faith as expressed in the five solas of the Reformation and the agreement of the historic Reformed confessions (Westminster Standards, Three Forms of Unity, and 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith).

The Scripture

The Scripture, in its entirety, is the infallible, inerrant, and inspired Word of God; it is divine revelation that carries the full weight of God's authority and to which we are obliged to submit.

The Trinity

Within the Godhead there is a unity of three distinct yet fully divine persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; these three are one true, eternal God, the same in substance, equal in power and glory.

God

God is a Spirit, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable in His being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth. God is fully omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent, not given to learning or "openness."

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is truly God and truly man, having two natures inseparably united in one divine person without confusion, mixture, separation, or division. Each nature retains its own attributes. In the incarnation, Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, lived a perfect life among us, was crucified, dead, and buried, rose on the third day, ascended to heaven, and will come again in glory and judgment. He is the only Mediator between God and man.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is of one substance with the Father and the Son. He eternally proceeds from the Father and the Son, and He dwells in the hearts of believers, effecting their regeneration and operating in their sanctification synergistically.

Creation

God, by the word of His power, created from nothing the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. He further preserves and governs all His creatures and all their actions according to His most holy, wise, and powerful providence.

Man

After God made the other creatures, He created man, both male and female, in His own image, but because Adam sinned and woefully fell in his responsibility, he and his posterity entered into a state of moral corruption and moral inability and became estranged from their Creator, thus deserving death as the punishment for sin.

Atonement

Because all have sinned, atonement must be made in order for man to be reconciled to God. Jesus Christ made a complete atonement for His people through His substitutionary atoning death on the cross. He imputes His righteousness to all believers securing us full redemption for all who repent of their sin and trust in Him alone for salvation.

The Law

The moral law perfectly reflects the unchangeable character of God and forever binds all people, believers as well as unbelievers.

Ligonier Ministries adheres to the ancient statements of faith (the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Creed of Chalcedon) and affirms the historic Christian faith as expressed in the five solas of the Reformation and the consensus of the historic Reformed confessions (Westminster Standards, Three Forms of Unity, and 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith).

The Church

Christ has established a visible church, which is called to live in the power of the Holy Spirit under the regulation of the authority of Holy Scripture, preaching the gospel of Christ, administering the sacraments, and exercising discipline.

Mission Work

As people called by God,

We gather to praise God, listen to him, and respond.

We nurture each other in faith and obedience to Christ.

We love and care for one another as God's people.

We commit ourselves to serve and to tell others about Jesus.

We pursue God's justice and peace in every area of life.

Church History

THE HISTORY OF THE BEREAN MISSIONARY CHURCH

On June 4th, 1979, the Berean Evangelistic Missionary Outreach was incorporated, Two years, five months later, November 27, 1981, a small group of worshipers were gathered in the Home of Robert and Marie Marshall the group consisted of the Smiths Richard and Lois, the Johnsons Stanley and Joyce, the Wilsons Willie and Joann and Sister Cassy Mitchel. They were praying for God’s approval for them to start a congregation. God answered, and The Berean Missionary Church was formed as a local Christ centered, Scripture teaching and gospel witnessing ministry. In time, with the help of Brother Don Boylan, the name Berean Missionary Church was officially Incorporated.

From the 418 East 40th Street North upper room the Lord moved the little group several times, they begin in an empty movie theater, moving next to a renovated Christian book store owned by the Wilsons. In 1986 God moved the congregation to the present location, 1842 East 28th Street North an vacant 2000 square foot Methodist Church, that was under the oversight of Pastor and Activist B.H Roberts. In 1993 construction begin on the current 4500 square foot addition. In 2002 without an offering plate ever being passed the entire structure was paid off. The practice of not passing an offering plate still exists today.

From 1979 to 2009 the Lord allowed Brother Robert Marshall to lead His (the Lord’s) flock. January 19, 2009 Roberts wife Marie of 33 years joined that great cloud of witnesses. Robert stepped down from the pulpit. But God had provided His sheep another under-shepherd, Errol Glen Marshall, Robert’s Cousin. In July of 2010 (EG) was named Pastor, he was supported by the same group of men that were helpers to Robert, Elder Don Boylan, Elder Matt Bullock, Deacon James Johnson, and Deacon Richard Smith. These men and their wives, still make up the leadership group for the Berean Missionary Church.

In 2013 Robert and His wife Doris returned to Tulsa from Huntsville Alabama where they had been living. It was agreed that he would once again Pastor the church.

With the many changes in location, and two different preachers there are a few things that have always been the same. Like the Berean’s of Acts 17:11, the members have continued to receive the word with all readiness and with diligence search the truths of God for themselves. They believe that All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, And they are convinced that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, and never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

The members of Berean are also convinced that no human is born with the desire to seek God. Adam’s sin passed death to all his descendants and only God’s unconditional choice, and the atoning blood of His son can heal the common and terminal disease of sin. It is only sin that His stripes have healed us from. Therefore, by God’s Grace and His gift of Faith sinners are redeemed and saved completely and eternally forever. This process is orchestrated by God, from the sharing of the Gospel of Salvation to the changing of the evil heart. Even a sinner’s confession with their mouth the Lord Jesus and a heart expressed belief that God has raised Christ from the dead, is all the work of God. Salvation from start to finish is of God alone.

This is our history and a snap shot of what we believe. Our future is in the hands of the God of all Grace and we agree with a stanza from well-known John Newton hymn, “Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; ’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home.”
